Of course everyone present knew that she meant Edmund. But Edmund had got past thinking about himself after all he'd been through and after the talk he'd had that morning.
He just went on looking at Aslan. It didn't seem to matter what the Witch said anymore."
Have you ever felt so crushed by failure (your own or someone else's), that you lost hope for the future?
Barbara and I were going through a dark time. Someone we loved had made a mess of things. The fallout was broad. We were overwhelmed by condemning, sliming thoughts. We just wanted to lower the shades and hide.
During that dark night, I happened to be listening to the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis as I drove.
I heard the phrase...
"but, Edmund just kept looking at Aslan and it didn't seem to matter what the Witch said anymore..."
I immediately stopped the car and played it again.
Hope spread through my soul. And resolve.
A friend of mine who'd been through many battles with the darkness just to stay alive used to say, "Trust. Ruthlessly."
I knew what we had to do. Just keep looking at Jesus. No matter what the witch says.
And I knew we'd be okay. Our circumstance might not immediately change, But, we would get through this. The Lion would make sure of it.
Do you need to just keep looking at Jesus today in the face of a torrent of condemning thoughts or overwhelming needs? (the answer is yes)
He is your shepherd. Ready with his staff to clobber the wolves.
He is the lamb who takes away your sin.
He is your creator, Father, provider...(the list goes on)
He is the Lion. Just keep looking at him.
"but, Edmund just kept looking at Aslan and it didn't seem to matter what the Witch said anymore..."
